Titre : Are We Postmodern Yet? : And Were We Ever? Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Reinhold Kramer, Auteur Editeur : New York : Palgrave-Macmillan Année de publication : 2019 Importance : 1 vol. (328 p.) Présentation : ill. Format : 21 cm. Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : LITTERATURE ET LANGUE ANGLAISE:823 English fiction : novel Résumé : In this book, Reinhold Kramer explores a variety of important social changes, including the resistance to objective measures of truth, the rise of “How-I-Feel” ethics, the ascendancy of individualism, the immersion in cyber-simulations, the push toward globalization and multilateralism, and the decline of political and religious faiths. He argues that the displacement, since the 1990s, of grand narratives by ego-based narratives and small narratives has proven inadequate, and that selective adherence, pluralist adaptation, and humanism are more worthy replacements. Relying on evolutionary psychology as much as on Charles Taylor, Kramer argues that no single answer is possible to the book title’s question, but that the term “postmodernity” – referring to the era, not to postmodernism – still usefully describes major currents within the contemporary world. Titre : Contemporary women's post-apocalyptic fiction Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Susan Watkins, Auteur Editeur : New York : Palgrave-Macmillan Année de publication : 2020 Collection : Palgrave studies in contemporary women's writing Importance : 1 vol. (IX, 220p.) Présentation : ill. Format : 22 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-137-48649-3 Note générale : Notes bibliogr. Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : LITTERATURE ET LANGUE ANGLAISE:823 English fiction : novel Mots-clés : post-apocalyptique Femmes écrivains Science fiction Histoire et critique Résumé : This book examines how contemporary women novelists have successfully transformed and rewritten the conventions of post-apocalyptic fiction. Contemporary women's work in this genre avoids conservatism, a nostalgic mourning for the past, and the focus on restoring what has been lost, aspects key to much male authored apocalyptic fiction. Instead, contemporary women writers show readers the ways in which patriarchy and neo-colonialism are intrinsically implicated in the disasters they envision, and offer qualified hope for a new beginning for society, culture and literature after an imagined apocalyptic event. Exploring science, nature and matter, the posthuman body, the maternal imaginary, time, narrative and history, literature and the word, and the post-secular, the book covers a wide variety of writers and addresses issues of nationality, race and ethnicity, as well as gender and sexuality Contemporary women's post-apocalyptic fiction [texte imprimé] / Susan Watkins, Auteur . - New York : Palgrave-Macmillan, 2020 . - 1 vol.
