Underwater wireless communication Internet of underwater things (IoUT) Software defined radio (SDR) Adaptive modulation SDR-UCP, NS-3 Aqua-Sim NG Packet delivery ratio (PDR) Throughput Energy efficiency |
| Résumé : |
This thesis addresses the problem of underwater wireless communication for Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) applications in the presence of severe acoustic channel constraints, including high attenuation, limited bandwidth, long propagation delay, and fluctuating noise. Traditional underwater communication systems are generally based on fixed transmission configurations, which makes them poorly adapted to the dynamic nature of the underwater environment. To overcome this limitation, this work proposes an adaptive Software-Defined Radio-based Underwater Communication Platform (SDRUCP).
The proposed framework dynamically selects the most suitable modulation scheme among BPSK, QPSK, and 16-QAM according to communication conditions, with the objective of improving reliability while preserving an effective trade-off between throughput, delay, and energy efficiency. The system was implemented and evaluated using the NS-3 simulator with the Aqua-Sim NG extension. The obtained results show that the adaptive SDR-UCP platform improves performance compared to fixed-modulation approaches by extending the useful communication range, improving Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) in degradation regions, and maintaining more stable performance under dynamic channel conditions. The study also confirms the relevance of VBF routing and highlights the importance of energy-aware evaluation in underwater IoUT systems. Overall, the proposed SDR-UCP framework demonstrates that adaptive and software-defined communication is a promising direction for improving underwater IoUT network performance. |
